Below we explain how to do it.

How do you safely light a fire basket?

Preparation

To light a fire basket safely, you need to be well prepared. It is important to put your brazier in a safe, open place. Place it at a good distance from trees, shrubs or wooden garden sheds. Always place your brazier on a completely flat surface. If you put the fire basket on your grass, make sure that your grass has been cut short and pour some water on this spot beforehand. It is also advisable to take into account the wind direction. This is to prevent one of your guests from being completely smoked out, which isn’t exactly a nice thing! A good tip to know where the wind comes from is to put a wet finger in the air. Where it feels cold, that's where the wind comes from. Finally, we advise you to always take your precautions and keep extinguishing agents within reach. Think of a bucket of sand or a fire blanket, simple ways to prevent accidents or to stop a dangerous situation.

How to light a fire basket

Lighting a brazier can be compared to lighting your fireplace. First put some kindling and some Barbecook lighter cubes on the bottom of your fire basket and light them using extra long matches or a Barbecook lighter. Then build a pyramid with about 5 logs. It is best to work with pieces of beech or oak to create an even heat. Oak and beech burn for a long time and give beautiful flames. It’s very important that your wood is dry. If this is not the case, the wood hisses in your fire, gives hardly any heat and causes dark smoke. Then make sure that the wind is right to start the fire. Also blow some air through your fire regularly. Under no circumstances use a liquid fuel such as methylated spirits; this is life-threatening. Once your fire is burning, the trick is to maintain it and keep it at the same temperature. You do this by adding logs in the places where it glows less. Good luck!
